Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 7, 2026
BrowseBuddy is a Chrome browser extension that adds an interactive pixel-art pet companion to your browsing experience. This policy explains what data the extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights.
Data We Do Not Collect
BrowseBuddy does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Browsing history or visited URLs
- Personal information (name, email, address)
- Passwords, credentials, or form data
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
- Page content or text you type
Data Stored Locally
The extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync):
- Pet state: mood, experience points, level, and BuddyCoins (in-extension currency)
- User preferences: settings like pet visibility, sound preferences
- Streak data: daily usage streak counter
- Unlocked content: tricks learned, skins earned
This data never leaves your browser and is not sent to any server.
Page Content Access
BrowseBuddy reads limited page information (page title, meta description, and visible headings) solely to generate on-screen page summaries for you. This processing happens entirely within your browser. No page content is transmitted externally.
Affiliate Links
When you visit supported shopping websites (such as Amazon), BrowseBuddy may add an affiliate tag to product URLs. This is how the extension is funded. Important details:
- Affiliate tags do not change the price you pay
- No personal or purchase data is collected by BrowseBuddy
- The affiliate tag is only added on supported retailer domains
- You can disable this feature in the extension settings
Permissions Explained
- activeTab / tabs: Required to display the pet on web pages and detect page context (e.g., shopping vs. reading)
- storage: Saves your pet's progress and settings locally
- notifications: Used for timer completion alerts (optional)
Third-Party Services
BrowseBuddy does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The extension makes no network requests beyond Chrome's built-in storage sync.
Children's Privacy
BrowseBuddy does not knowingly collect information from children. The extension does not collect personal information from any user.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes on the Chrome Web Store.
